National:

At least 59 people killed and over 500 injured Sunday night at a country musical festival in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This is the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history.

The gunman, Stephen Paddock, a 64 year old man, shot for nine to eleven minutes before the police found him.

Paddock shot from his 32nd window at a Las Vegas hotel, firing roughly 22,000 bullets.

Police believed Paddock acted alone, and his motive is unknown.

 

Local:

Six students participated in the Doane Trimathlon Contest in Crete, NE on Thursday Sept 28.

Overall, the team scores fourth against other high schools in the Lincoln/Omaha area.

Seniors Taylor York and Jordan Rodriguez and Junior Sayf Thanawalla scored fourth in the bowl competition.

In the written exam, Scottsbluff scored six out of ten.

 

State:

Friday, the Nebraska Supreme Court ruled to shut down the four beer stores in the tiny reservation, Whiteclay, Nebraska.

Alcohol sales and possession is officially banned on the reservation.  

The four beer stores sold 3.5 million dollars of revenue in net total.

On April 19, the liquor license board did not renew the licences because of inadequate law enforcement to allow liquor sales. The town has a roughly nine residents and no local police.

The court’s did not address whether the liquor board had the power to deny the liquor licences to the stores because of inadequate law enforcement.

The stores could apply for a new liquor license, although that would be considered “negligible”.

If the stores did reapply, it would legally battle for months again.
